This is the remarkable debut feature of Alex Proyas, the director who later went on to make The Crow and the sublime Dark City.
The story is simple: in the post-apocalyptic outback of Austtralia a brother and sister live together in a remote location. Being isolated has not been good to their mental health. Their relatively peaceful, but bizarre existence is disturbed by the arrival of a stranger who will help them to get away from their hell hole.
It is style over substance in this movie and if you have seen his later movies you will know Proyas can really build a strong atmosphere with images and sounds. The music by Peter Miller certainly is a contributing factor in this process.
Not a movie for everyone judging from the rating on IMDB but I strongly recommend it for anyone who is interested to see a movie that does not comply with the norm set by contemporary cinema.
It has not been released on DVD yet and was only available on VHS in 4:3, which I believe is the OAR (it was shot on 16 mm).
